# Joseph Woodcock

**How long have you been part of the Marketing Signals team, and how did you end up here?**

I’ve been with Marketing Signals for the last 7 months, I actually joined the team on recommendation from Jade (our head of Digital PR). We used to work together a couple of years ago at Wavemaker and I jumped at the chance to work with her again and join the amazing digital PR team here.

**What does a typical day actually look like for you?**

My day can vary depending on which of our clients have digital PR campaigns in production or outreach to activate, but typically I’d spend a few hours delving into some different data sets to pull together some insights that can be used as the basis for a digital PR campaign. I’ll also often set aside time throughout the day to proof our deliverables, provide feedback to the team when needed, and strategise for the quarter ahead, helping to ensure all work we deliver is hitting the client’s brief, is news worthy, and is of the high standard we set ourselves to. Finally, if there is a client campaign that is being outreached to journalists, I’ll support that process, this could be writing a new press email pitch, finding new contacts for us to email, or sending the emails itself.

**What do you enjoy doing outside of work?**

Outside of work I’ll often be found at the gym - I try to go 5 times a week but I don’t think I successfully achieve that goal very often. I also like to go to the cinema and try to see a new movie most weeks, which has not been hard to do with all of the amazing films we’ve had this year!

**What's one thing on your bucket list?**

Visit every Disney theme park in the world. I’m a huge theme park fan and was brought up on trips to Disney as a kid. I’ve been lucky enough to go to 8 out of the 12 parks so far and hopefully Shanghai Disneyland will be the next one I visit.

**What's one piece of advice you'd give someone starting out in marketing?**

Marketing is a very broad industry so I’d always suggest trying out the different specialisms to understand which you prefer, that might be through a graduate program, internships, or through your own personal projects. Before getting my first job, I did internships in creative advertising, content marketing, and social media marketing. I then started off my career in technical SEO, I also tried account management before finally specialising in Digital PR - it’s been a journey!

**What's the one tool or resource you genuinely couldn't work without?**

Google Sheets, I’ll use it most days to compile different data sets into one sheet to then sort, pivot and calculate stats or insights that can then be used for a client’s digital PR campaign. It can be a really insightful tool once you know the different formulas.
