# Digital Marketing Strategy

Digital marketing strategy agency and consultancy for search-led brands: one plan across SEO, PPC, Digital PR and AI search, measured and moved on revenue.

## Digital Marketing Strategy Consultancy For Search-Led Growth

Most marketing plans are a set of channel plans stapled together, each judged on its own numbers. Our digital marketing strategy consultancy sets one plan across SEO, PPC, Digital PR and AI search, measures it with methods your finance director will accept and moves budget as the evidence changes, quarter after quarter.

Why marketing directors work with us

## Key Takeaways

- For MoneyExpert.com, our integrated search strategy delivered a 76% reduction in CPA, an 83% increase in conversions and an 88% increase in non-homepage traffic.
- Budget moves between SEO, PPC, Digital PR and GEO at each quarterly review, towards what the evidence supports, instead of holding a split set in January.
- Your finance director gets numbers that separate correlation from cause, with attribution, incrementality tests and marketing mix modelling matched to each budget decision.
- The board gets one page on what was spent, what it returned, what was tested and where the next pound should go, with brand traffic separated from non-brand.

## We’ve Helped Dozens Of Great Brands Grow Their Digital Presence Via Search Marketing

## Strategy is deciding where the next pound goes, and proving it.

Every channel report claims the same customer. GA4 says one thing, the ad platforms say another and finance has a third number based on what happened to revenue. A digital marketing strategy that cannot reconcile those numbers ends up funding whichever channel tells the best story, not the one that earns the most.

We work as a digital marketing strategy agency and consultancy for brands where search is the main route to revenue. That means one plan across [organic search](https://marketingsignals.com/service/organic-search), [pay per click](https://marketingsignals.com/service/pay-per-click), [Digital PR](https://marketingsignals.com/service/digital-pr) and [AI search](https://marketingsignals.com/service/ai-search-optimisation), a measurement approach that separates correlation from cause, and a budget that can move between channels during the year. It is the ongoing strategy layer of our [integrated search](https://marketingsignals.com/service/integrated-search) service.

If you face one large decision first, such as a new market or a new channel, start with [market feasibility research](https://marketingsignals.com/service/integrated-search/market-feasibility-research). This service is for what comes after: running the plan, quarter by quarter. Either way, the first step is a [growth plan call](https://marketingsignals.com/growth-plan).

Why Choose Us

## One Plan. One Set Of Numbers. Budget That Moves.

## One Strategy Across Search. Measured On Revenue.

### The Budget Decisions Before The Channel Plans

**We start with the decisions leadership has to make this year, then build the strategy and the measurement around them.**

Should brand search keep its budget? Is Digital PR earning links that move rankings and AI citations, or just coverage? Which market or category gets the next hire? We list those decisions, agree how each will be judged and set one plan across your search channels with shared targets such as revenue, new customers or blended cost of acquisition. Then we review it every quarter and move budget towards what the evidence supports.

- One plan across SEO, PPC, Digital PR and GEO
- Shared targets, not channel-by-channel claims
- Measurement matched to each budget decision
- Budget reallocated as the evidence changes
- A clear split of in-house and agency work
- One-page reporting for the board

#### Attribution For Day-To-Day Decisions

Attribution is the right tool for choosing campaigns, keywords and creative inside a channel, and the wrong one for setting the split between channels. GA4 now offers only data-driven attribution and two last click models, after the first click, linear, time decay and position-based models were retired in November 2023. Direct visits get no credit unless the whole path is direct, and exposure that never produced a tracked visit is invisible to it. We use attribution for what it does well, and no further.

#### Incrementality Tests For The Big Questions

When a large budget line has never been proved, we test it. Google Ads Conversion Lift can split test groups by users or by geography, and the geography version supports offline conversion data. Geo tests, switching spend off or up in chosen regions, work for any channel. We prioritise by spend multiplied by doubt and agree the smallest lift worth detecting before launch. Brand search is often first, as our article on [testing whether brand bidding adds sales](https://marketingsignals.com/insights/brand-bidding-incrementality-test) explains.

#### Marketing Mix Modelling When The Data Supports It

Marketing mix modelling estimates each channel's contribution to total sales, alongside price, promotions and seasonality, without user-level tracking. It needs history and variation. Google's Meridian documentation works through a model with 26 parameters and two years of weekly data, four data points per parameter, and calls that too low to estimate reliably. We tell you honestly whether a model is worth building yet. Our guide to [marketing mix modelling, attribution and incrementality](https://marketingsignals.com/insights/marketing-mix-modelling-attribution-incrementality) covers the trade-offs.

#### Measuring AI Search Alongside The Rest

AI answers influence buyers who may never click, so last click reporting understates them. We track AI share of voice across a defined prompt set, separate referral visits and conversions from AI assistants in GA4, and watch branded search demand for signs that AI mentions are reaching people. That puts AI search into the same budget conversation as paid and organic search, judged on the same commercial targets, as set out in our guide to [measuring LLM traffic in GA4](https://marketingsignals.com/insights/llm-traffic-ga4-measure-ai-referral-visits-and-leads).

### How We Measure What Actually Works

## Our Digital Marketing Strategy Services

#### Channel Mix And Search Strategy

We set the role of each search channel against your commercial targets: where SEO captures demand over the long term, where PPC buys speed and control, where Digital PR earns the authority and mentions that feed both rankings and AI answers, and where GEO work is needed to be named by assistants. The output is one plan with priorities ranked by expected revenue, rather than four channel plans competing for one budget. Our piece on [SEO and PPC as one plan](https://marketingsignals.com/insights/seo-and-ppc-as-one-plan) shows how shared data changes the decisions.

#### Budget Allocation And Reallocation

Annual splits rarely survive a trading year. We set channel budgets from the best evidence available, then move them as results come in, judged on blended cost of acquisition and revenue rather than each platform's own conversion claims. At campaign level, Google Ads Performance Planner simulates relevant auctions over the last seven to ten days and may propose a zero budget for campaigns that add nothing to efficient spend. We treat tools like this as one input, never as the strategy.

#### Measurement Design

We design measurement around the budget decisions you need to make: attribution for daily optimisation, incrementality tests for the largest unproven spend and, when the history supports it, a marketing mix model to set the channel split. Open-source tools such as Google's Meridian, made available to everyone in January 2025, and Meta's Robyn cut licence costs, but they still need clean weekly data and an analyst who understands the assumptions. We are clear about which method you need now and which can wait.

#### Tracking And Data Foundations

Every measurement method depends on conversions and revenue being recorded consistently. We check that GA4 key events, ad platform conversions and campaign tagging agree with each other, that offline and CRM outcomes are imported where sales close away from the website, and that platform revenue can be reconciled with the finance figure. Until those foundations hold, any strategy is built on numbers nobody fully trusts, which is why this is usually where we start.

#### In-House And Agency Operating Model

Most of the brands we work with run a hybrid. We help decide who owns which decisions: strategy, product knowledge, content approval, development priority and data accounts usually stay in-house, while specialist depth, Digital PR capacity and fast-moving disciplines such as GEO often sit with an agency. Then we set one backlog and one set of numbers so nothing is done twice. Our view on [the in-house and agency hybrid that works](https://marketingsignals.com/insights/in-house-or-agency-the-hybrid-that-works) explains the split.

#### Board And Leadership Reporting

Boards ask what marketing returned, what it cost and where the next pound should go. We report on one page against the targets agreed at the start, such as revenue, new customers, blended cost of acquisition and share of search and AI visibility, with what was tested, what was learned and what budget moved as a result. Brand traffic is separated from non-brand so it cannot flatter the picture. Our guide to [SEO reporting for the board](https://marketingsignals.com/insights/seo-reporting-for-the-board) covers the KPIs a marketing director should own.

#### Agency And Supplier Oversight

Where several agencies run different channels, someone has to look across all of them. We set shared targets and definitions, review each supplier's reporting against your own data and flag where two channels are claiming the same customer. Because our own PPC management is a fixed fee rather than a percentage of ad spend, we have no reason to push more money into paid search than the evidence supports. The principle is to [measure your agency on revenue, not rankings](https://marketingsignals.com/insights/measure-your-agency-on-revenue-not-rankings).

Strategy work is ongoing and sits alongside the people delivering each channel, whether that is your team, ours or another agency. These are the parts we are most often asked to own or advise on, working as a digital marketing consultant to the marketing director rather than the supplier of a single channel.

## Integrated Strategies That Moved Revenue

## What Joined-Up Strategy Delivers For The Business

### Less Spend On Sales You Already Had

Testing brand search and other close-to-purchase spend shows where it protects revenue and where it buys customers who would have come anyway.

### Numbers Finance Will Accept

Measurement that separates correlation from cause gives your finance director evidence, not three dashboards that disagree.

### Budget That Follows Results

Quarterly reviews move money between SEO, PPC, Digital PR and GEO as results change, instead of holding a split set in January.

### Search And AI Visibility In One View

Paid, organic and AI share of voice sit in one report against the same targets, so no channel is judged in isolation.

### Clear Ownership

A written split between in-house and agency work means fewer duplicated tasks and fewer recommendations stuck in a backlog.

### Board-Ready Reporting

One page on what was spent, what it returned, what was tested and where the next pound should go.

The aim is a marketing budget that goes where it earns most, with numbers the board trusts and a plan that changes when the evidence does.

## How Our Strategy Work Runs, Step By Step

### 1. Growth Plan Call

We start with a growth plan call on your goals, your channels and the decisions leadership needs to make this year, and agree whether ongoing strategy support is the right fit.

### 2. Audit Data And Channels

We review tracking, attribution and every search channel together, reconciling platform figures with finance, to see where budget overlaps or leaks.

### 3. Set One Plan And Targets

We agree one plan, shared commercial targets, a measurement approach for each budget decision and a clear split of in-house and agency work.

### 4. Review And Reallocate

Each quarter we report to leadership on one page, run the next tests and move budget towards the channels and markets the evidence supports.

### What does a digital marketing strategy consultancy do?

A digital marketing strategy consultancy decides where marketing budget should go and how to prove it worked. For search-led brands that means one plan across SEO, PPC, Digital PR and AI search, a measurement approach matched to each budget decision, a clear split between in-house and agency work and reporting the board can act on. Unlike a one-off plan, it is reviewed and adjusted every quarter as results come in.

### Do we need a digital marketing consultant or an agency?

It depends on who will deliver the work. A digital marketing consultant advises and leaves execution to your team or other suppliers, while an agency delivers the channels. We do both: strategy sits alongside delivery of SEO, PPC, Digital PR and GEO, and works with your in-house team or other agencies where they already run a channel. If you only need senior SEO strategy, our [SEO consultant](https://marketingsignals.com/service/organic-search/seo-consultant) service is a narrower fit.

### Should we use marketing mix modelling, attribution or incrementality testing?

Usually a combination. Attribution suits daily optimisation inside a channel but cannot see exposure that never produced a tracked visit. Incrementality tests give causal answers, one question at a time, and need enough conversions to read. Marketing mix modelling sets the channel split but needs years of weekly data with real variation in spend. We match the method to the decision, as our guide to [choosing between MMM, attribution and incrementality](https://marketingsignals.com/insights/marketing-mix-modelling-attribution-incrementality) explains.

### How is this different from market feasibility research?

Market feasibility research is a one-off piece of paid research before a large decision, such as entering a new market or funding a new channel, and it ends with a recommendation you own. Digital marketing strategy is ongoing: setting the plan, measuring it, moving budget and reporting quarter by quarter. Many clients start with [market feasibility research](https://marketingsignals.com/service/integrated-search/market-feasibility-research) and move into ongoing strategy if the answer is to go ahead.

### How do you decide budget allocation between SEO, PPC and Digital PR?

We start from the commercial target, usually revenue or blended cost of acquisition, and the evidence for each channel's contribution. Paid search gives fast cost and conversion data, organic and AI visibility build more slowly, and Digital PR feeds both through links and mentions. We set an initial split, test the largest unproven lines and move budget each quarter towards what is returning most, rather than fixing it in January and defending it all year.

### How does this work with our in-house team?

Most of our strategy work runs alongside in-house teams. Strategy ownership, product knowledge, content approval, development priority and data accounts usually stay with you, while we bring specialist depth across search channels and measurement. We work from one plan, one backlog and one set of numbers so nothing is done twice. Our article on [in-house or agency SEO](https://marketingsignals.com/insights/in-house-or-agency-the-hybrid-that-works) sets out the hybrid split we see work.
