# Education SEO

University and education SEO agency for higher education, schools and EdTech. Course pages, Clearing and international SEO, reported on applications.

## University and Education SEO Agency That Grows Applications

Prospective students compare courses on Google and in AI assistants long before they request a prospectus or call a Clearing hotline. We make your course pages, Clearing content and international pages easy to find and accurate, then report on enquiries and applications rather than rankings alone.

Why universities work with us

## Key Takeaways

- Applicants find your course rather than an aggregator listing, because course page templates are rebuilt around entry requirements, modules, fees, placements and career outcomes.
- Clearing content is indexed and ranking before results day rather than published on it, using one permanent Clearing URL that gains authority year on year.
- Enquiries, open day bookings and applications are reported by course and faculty every month, so admissions teams see which courses search is helping to fill.

## We’ve Helped Dozens Of Great Brands Grow Their Digital Presence Via Search Marketing

## Applicants shortlist in search long before they reach UCAS.

Education search runs to its own calendar. Demand builds towards the UCAS deadlines, becomes urgent again on results day and through Clearing, and follows different timings in every international market. The pages that matter most are course pages, often owned by dozens of departments on a CMS that has grown over many years, and every statement about fees, modules or rankings sits under consumer law and advertising rules. Generic SEO advice misses most of that.

As an [organic search](https://marketingsignals.com/service/organic-search) agency, we treat course pages as the revenue pages they are. We fix what stops Google crawling a large legacy site, rebuild course templates around what applicants search for, plan content around the UCAS cycle and Clearing, and build the [international SEO](https://marketingsignals.com/service/organic-search/international-seo) structure your recruitment teams need in each market. The same approach works for independent schools, colleges and EdTech companies, and for [enterprise SEO](https://marketingsignals.com/service/organic-search/enterprise-seo) programmes that span a whole institution.

Our [visibility playbook for education and EdTech](https://marketingsignals.com/playbooks/the-visibility-playbook-for-education-and-edtech) explains how course pages, credentials and academic profiles show up in an applicant journey shaped by AI search. This page is about how we would run the work for you. If you are still comparing specialists, our [ranked list of UK education and EdTech SEO agencies](https://marketingsignals.com/insights/best-education-and-edtech-seo-agencies-2027-the-top-uk-education-seo-agencies-ranked) sets out the options.

Why Choose Us

## Course Pages First. Applications In The Report.

## Built Around The Cycle. Measured On Applications.

### The Courses You Need To Fill Before The Tactics

**We start with your recruitment targets, not a keyword list.**

Admissions and marketing teams already know which courses are under target, which countries matter and when applicants decide. We map search demand to that: subject and course searches, postgraduate and international queries, Clearing searches and the questions applicants put to AI assistants. You get a baseline by course and faculty, priorities ranked by recruitment value and a measure to hold us to.

- Course pages that rank for subject and course searches
- Clearing content indexed before results day
- Country pages built for international recruitment
- Crawl and governance fixes for large legacy sites
- Accurate fees, modules and entry requirements in AI answers
- Enquiries and applications reported by course

#### Course Pages And Course Schema

Google stopped showing the course info rich result and removed its documentation in September 2025, so markup built for it no longer earns an enhanced listing. The course list carousel is still documented: it needs Course markup on at least three courses, each with a name and a description, plus ItemList carousel markup on a summary or all-in-one page. We implement what Google still supports, keep markup matching the visible page and put entry requirements, modules, fees and outcomes in plain text that search engines and AI assistants can read.

#### The UCAS Cycle And Clearing

For 2027 entry, the UCAS equal consideration date for most undergraduate courses is 13 January 2027 at 18:00, with an earlier 15 October date for Oxford, Cambridge and most medicine, dentistry and veterinary courses. In 2026, Clearing ran from 2 July to 19 October, and on results day the UCAS Hub updated at 08:00. We keep one permanent Clearing URL that gains authority year on year, refresh it and its vacancy content before July, and schedule course page work well ahead of the January date.

#### International Student Recruitment

International applicants search in their own markets, languages and timings. We build country and language pages with hreflang, following Google's guidance that it works out a page's language from visible content rather than lang attributes, and that Googlebot usually crawls from the USA, so content swapped by visitor location may never be seen. Policy changes need fast updates too: the Graduate visa falls from two years to 18 months for applications made from 1 January 2027, and outdated pages feed outdated AI answers.

#### Large Legacy Sites And CMS Governance

University sites often combine faculty microsites, subdomains, staff profiles, event listings, news archives and years of PDF prospectuses. Google's crawl budget guidance is written for sites of over a million unique pages, or over 10,000 that change daily, and where a site is that large, crawl waste delays new course pages being found. We find what wastes crawling, consolidate duplicate course pages, keep superseded PDFs out of the index with X-Robots-Tag headers and agree publishing rules with your web team, so fixes survive devolved editing.

### Search Visibility Tied To Recruitment

## Our Education SEO Services

#### Technical SEO For University Websites

We audit crawling, indexing, rendering and internal links across the main site, subdomains and faculty microsites, then rank fixes by the courses they affect. That covers duplicate course URLs created by entry year or study mode, retired courses that should redirect to a live alternative, staff and research pages competing with course pages, and redirect plans for CMS migrations so course pages keep their rankings through the move. Our notes on [website migration SEO](https://marketingsignals.com/insights/ecommerce-replatforming-seo) explain the method.

#### Course Page Templates

Course pages carry the recruitment load, so we rebuild the template around the questions applicants search: entry requirements, modules, assessment, fees, placements, accreditation and career outcomes. The CMA's consumer law advice treats a course web page as an invitation to purchase, with material information such as total tuition fees and additional costs presented up front rather than revealed in stages. A template that does this well serves applicants, compliance teams and search engines at once.

#### Clearing And Cycle Planning

We build a content calendar around the UCAS dates, open days, results day and Clearing, so pages are indexed and ranking before demand arrives rather than published on the day. Clearing pages get a permanent URL, vacancy content your team can update quickly on results day and a fallback for courses that fill. Where paid search runs alongside, we plan it with our [pay per click](https://marketingsignals.com/service/pay-per-click) team so budgets cover the gaps organic search cannot fill in time.

#### International Recruitment SEO

We structure country and language versions with hreflang, choose between subdirectories and country domains with your IT team, and write country pages that answer the questions each market asks: recognised qualifications, English language requirements, visas, fees and scholarships. Pages are checked against policy changes such as the shorter Graduate visa from January 2027, because applicants and AI assistants both read whatever is published, including the parts that are out of date.

#### Compliant Claims And Rankings

League table and satisfaction claims attract scrutiny. ASA guidance says comparative claims by universities must make the basis and source clear, naming and dating the league table or report, and must reflect what the data actually says rather than a favourable reworking of it. We write and review content against that guidance and the CMA's advice on material information, so pages earn rankings without creating complaints or compliance rework for your team.

#### EdTech And Online Learning SEO

EdTech companies sell to schools, universities, parents and learners, often all at once. We build product, feature, use case and comparison pages for each buyer, and add SoftwareApplication markup where Google's requirements can be met: a name, an offers price (zero for free apps) and either a rating or reviews. For subscription platforms, we run this alongside our [SaaS SEO](https://marketingsignals.com/service/organic-search/saas-seo) work on sign-ups, trials and demo requests.

#### SEO For Schools And Colleges

Independent schools, sixth forms and further education colleges compete on local searches, admissions questions and open day dates. We structure admissions, fees, bursary and open day pages so they rank for searches from nearby families, keep Google Business Profiles accurate for every campus and build links from local and education press. Groups with several campuses get the same structure as our [multi-location SEO](https://marketingsignals.com/service/organic-search/multi-location-seo) work.

#### AI Search Visibility For Education

Applicants can now ask ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity which universities to consider and what a course involves. We track the prompts that matter to your recruitment, check what AI assistants say about your courses, fees and rankings, and fix the sources behind wrong answers. An [AI visibility audit](https://marketingsignals.com/service/ai-search-optimisation/ai-visibility-audit) is a sensible first step, and our [Digital PR](https://marketingsignals.com/service/digital-pr) team, which includes a former Reach PLC journalist, turns academic research into coverage that gets cited.

Every engagement is built around your recruitment plan. Universities usually need most of what follows, while schools, colleges and EdTech companies pick the parts that fit. If you want senior advice alongside an in-house team rather than a full agency programme, our [SEO consultant](https://marketingsignals.com/service/organic-search/seo-consultant) service covers that.

## What Education SEO Delivers For Recruitment

### Courses Found By The Right Applicants

Course pages rank for subject, qualification and location searches, so applicants find your course rather than an aggregator listing.

### Ready Before The Peaks

Clearing and deadline content is indexed before demand arrives, rather than published on the day and found too late.

### Stronger International Pipeline

Country pages answer each market's questions in its own terms, supporting your recruitment teams and agents abroad.

### Accurate, Compliant Information

Fees, modules, rankings and visa details are current and stated the way consumer law and ASA guidance expect, in search and in AI answers.

Organic applications take pressure off paid search and aggregator budgets during the most expensive weeks of the cycle.

### Reporting By Course

Enquiries, open day bookings and applications are reported by course and faculty, so you can see where search is working.

The aim is simple: when an applicant searches for a course you teach, or asks an AI assistant where to study it, your institution is in the answer with accurate details and a clear next step.

### What does a university SEO agency do?

A university SEO agency makes your courses visible to prospective students in Google and AI assistants, and turns that visibility into enquiries and applications. In practice that means technical fixes on large, devolved websites, course page templates built around what applicants search for, content timed to the UCAS cycle and Clearing, international pages for recruitment markets and reporting by course. Marketing Signals runs this as part of its [organic search](https://marketingsignals.com/service/organic-search) service, with reporting tied to leads rather than rankings.

### Does course schema still matter now Google has retired course info rich results?

Google removed the course info rich result in September 2025, so that markup no longer produces an enhanced listing. The course list carousel is still documented and needs Course markup on at least three courses plus carousel markup on a summary or all-in-one page. Beyond rich results, structured data that matches the visible page gives search engines and AI assistants a consistent statement of course details. We implement what Google supports and do not spend your budget on features that no longer show.

### When should we start preparing for Clearing?

Well before July. In 2026 Clearing opened on 2 July and ran to 19 October, and pages need to be crawled, indexed and ranking before results day rather than published on it. We recommend one permanent Clearing URL that keeps its links and history from year to year, refreshed in spring with course vacancies, entry criteria and contact routes, and tested for speed under results day traffic. [Paid search](https://marketingsignals.com/service/pay-per-click) can cover any gaps while organic pages build.

### Can you work within university procurement and with our web team?

Yes. Marketing Signals is assessed by EcoVadis every year and is an approved supplier to enterprise procurement teams, including Sage, so formal supplier onboarding is familiar to us. Our page [for procurement teams](https://marketingsignals.com/procurement) sets out the details. On delivery, we write fixes as tickets for your web team or CMS supplier, brief devolved editors with simple publishing rules and agree which changes can go live without central sign-off, so work does not stall in a queue.

### Do you work with schools and EdTech companies as well as universities?

Yes. Independent schools and colleges need strong local search, admissions and open day pages. EdTech companies need product, feature and comparison pages for several buyers, often run alongside [SaaS SEO](https://marketingsignals.com/service/organic-search/saas-seo). Each engagement is scoped to the work that fits, from a full agency programme to an [SEO consultant](https://marketingsignals.com/service/organic-search/seo-consultant) arrangement that supports an in-house team. Our [education and EdTech playbook](https://marketingsignals.com/playbooks/the-visibility-playbook-for-education-and-edtech) shows how we think about the sector.

### How do you measure education SEO?

On recruitment outcomes, not rankings alone. We track organic and AI-referred enquiries, prospectus requests, open day bookings and applications by course and faculty, alongside visibility for the searches and AI prompts that matter. Where application data sits in a separate admissions system, we agree a practical way to link it back to search sources. You get a monthly view of which courses search is helping to fill and where the next priorities are.
