# Shopify SEO

Shopify SEO agency fixing collection-scoped URLs, app bloat, filters and Markets setup so your collections and products rank and earn more revenue.

## Shopify SEO Agency That Grows Organic Revenue

Shopify makes it easy to launch a store and harder to control how search engines read it. Our Shopify SEO services work inside the platform's fixed URL structure, theme code and app stack to get your collections and products ranking for the searches that carry revenue. We report on the sales they bring in, not just positions.

Why Shopify brands work with us

## Key Takeaways

- For The Tree Center, our organic search work delivered an 86% increase in organic revenue from core category pages and a 247% increase in page one rankings.
- Google spends its time on the collections and products you sell, because we fix collection-scoped product links and keep unneeded filter URLs out with robots.txt.liquid.
- Product and collection templates load faster because we trace every script to the app responsible and remove leftover code, tracked in Shopify’s web performance reports.
- Organic revenue and orders are reported by collection, alongside the rankings, crawl and Core Web Vitals data that explain them.

## We’ve Helped Dozens Of Great Brands Grow Their Digital Presence Via Search Marketing

## Shopify decides much of your SEO before you write a word.

Every Shopify store shares the same URL prefixes: /products/, /collections/, /pages/ and /blogs/. Shopify has confirmed these cannot be changed, so a Shopify SEO agency cannot win by redesigning your URLs. It wins by controlling what sits inside them: which collections exist, how products link to them, which filtered pages Google is allowed to crawl and how much theme and app code loads before your product image does.

We start with the collections and products that already earn money, then fix the platform issues holding them back, from collection-scoped product links to app scripts left behind after an uninstall. Category work follows the approach in our [e-commerce SEO](https://marketingsignals.com/service/organic-search/ecommerce-seo) service, adapted to what Shopify will and will not let you change.

If you are comparing specialists, our [guide to the best UK Shopify SEO agencies](https://marketingsignals.com/insights/best-uk-shopify-seo-agencies-2027-guide) sets out what to look for. Whichever partner you choose, ask how they report on organic revenue, not just rankings.

Why Choose Us

## Platform Knowledge. Collections First. Revenue In The Report.

## Fixed URLs. Flexible Results.

### Collections First, Then Everything Else

**Collections are where most Shopify stores win or lose non-branded search.**

Collection pages target the category terms buyers use before they have chosen a product, so that is where we put the effort first. We map demand to collections, decide which tag and filter combinations deserve a collection of their own, write copy that helps the shopper choose and make sure every product links back to the collection it belongs in. Our guide to [e-commerce category page SEO](https://marketingsignals.com/insights/ecommerce-category-page-seo) explains the thinking.

- Collections mapped to real category demand
- Product links pointing at /products/ URLs
- Filtered URLs crawled only where they earn it
- Theme and app code trimmed for Core Web Vitals
- Product structured data matching the page
- Organic revenue reported by collection

#### Collection-Scoped Product URLs

Many themes link products from collection grids using Liquid's within filter, which produces URLs such as /collections/sale/products/blue-dress. Shopify's own developer documentation warns that this puts the same content on a second URL and asks developers to consider the SEO implications. The canonical tag points back to /products/blue-dress, but internal links to the collection version still split signals and waste crawling. We edit the theme so grids link straight to the canonical product URL, which removes the problem at source.

#### Editable robots.txt.liquid

Shopify generates robots.txt automatically, but adding a robots.txt.liquid template to your theme replaces that output. That lets us add rules to the default groups, remove ones you do not need or block specific crawlers. Shopify recommends building on its Liquid objects rather than hard-coding plain text, and saving the current file before publishing a change. We follow both, and test every rule against your filtered collection and search URLs before it goes live.

#### Storefront Filters And Faceted URLs

Shopify's storefront filters write each selection into the URL, such as filter.v.option.color=red or filter.v.price.lte=50, and merchants can create up to 25 filters. Combined, they produce thousands of crawlable URLs with near-identical content. Google's guidance is to block faceted URLs you do not need indexed with robots.txt, and it describes canonical tags as less effective in the long term. Where a filter matches real search demand, we turn it into a proper collection instead.

#### Shopify Markets And International Domains

Shopify Markets adds hreflang tags automatically when a market has its own domain, subdomain or subfolder, and keeps known search engine crawlers out of location-based redirects so each version can be indexed. Shopify's own advice favours subfolders, which share your main domain's authority. We check the setup against your trading plan, confirm hreflang and market sitemaps match what you sell where, and plan the content each market needs using our [international SEO](https://marketingsignals.com/service/organic-search/international-seo) approach.

### Shopify Constraints Handled At Theme Level

## Our Shopify SEO Services

#### Shopify SEO Audit

A full review of crawlability, indexation, duplicate URLs, theme code, app scripts, structured data and internal linking, measured against the collections and products that drive revenue. Every finding names the theme file or admin setting to change, the effort involved and the commercial reason to do it, so your developers or ours can act on it straight away. Fixes are ranked by likely revenue impact, not by how many warnings a crawler reports.

#### Theme Code And Liquid Fixes

Most Shopify SEO problems live in the theme, not the admin. We edit Liquid templates to fix collection-scoped product links, canonical tags on paginated and filtered pages, heading structure and image markup. Work is done on a duplicate theme and checked before publishing, so your live store is never the test environment. Where a page builder or third-party theme limits what can change, we say so and propose the closest workable option.

#### App Audit And Core Web Vitals

Shopify names apps and themes among the biggest factors in store speed, and its help centre notes that uninstalling an app does not automatically remove its code from your theme. We list every script loading on your key templates, trace it to the app or tag responsible and remove what no longer earns its place. Progress is tracked in Shopify's web performance reports, which show LCP, INP and CLS from real visitors over the past 30 days.

#### Collection And Product Content

We write collection copy that helps a shopper choose between products, and product descriptions that answer the questions buyers ask before they buy: size, materials, compatibility and delivery. Content is planned from search demand and your own converting search terms, then built into the theme with metafields so it stays editable. The same clarity helps AI assistants describe and recommend your products accurately, which our [GEO for e-commerce](https://marketingsignals.com/service/ai-search-optimisation/geo-for-ecommerce) service builds on.

#### Structured Data For Products

Shopify's structured_data Liquid filter outputs Product markup for single products and ProductGroup markup for products with variants, but many themes still ship older or incomplete JSON-LD, and review or SEO apps often add a second copy. We check what your theme outputs against Google's product variant guidelines, remove duplicate blocks and make sure price, availability and reviews in the markup match the page. Read more on [product schema for AI answers](https://marketingsignals.com/insights/product-pages-and-schema-for-ai-answers).

#### Migrations To And From Shopify

Replatforming changes every URL on a site, and Shopify only lets you redirect from URLs that no longer load a live page. Stores can hold up to 100,000 redirects, or up to 20 million on Shopify Plus. We build the redirect map from analytics and backlink data, test it before launch and monitor rankings and revenue afterwards. Our guide to [replatforming without losing revenue](https://marketingsignals.com/insights/ecommerce-replatforming-seo) explains the process step by step.

#### Authority Building And Digital PR

Collections compete against marketplaces and large retailers with years of links behind them. Our [Digital PR](https://marketingsignals.com/service/digital-pr) team, which includes a former Reach PLC journalist, earns coverage and links from publications your buyers read, pointed at the collections that need authority most. We do not buy links or use private blog networks, and every placement is reported against the pages it was meant to lift.

Each engagement is built from the services below, prioritised by what will move organic revenue soonest. Most stores need a mix of theme-level technical work, collection strategy and authority building, and Shopify Plus stores add expansion stores and larger redirect maps to the list. Our [e-commerce visibility playbook](https://marketingsignals.com/playbooks/the-e-commerce-visibility-playbook) shows how the pieces fit together.

## What Shopify SEO Delivers For The Business

### More Non-Branded Revenue

Collections that rank for category searches bring in shoppers who did not know your brand before they searched.

### Less Crawl Waste

Google spends its time on the collections and products you sell, not on thousands of filter and duplicate product URLs.

### Faster Key Templates

Removing unused app code and heavy sections improves loading on the product and collection templates that convert.

### Cleaner International Growth

Markets, domains and hreflang set up to match where you sell, so the right version of each page appears in each country.

### Less Reliance On Paid Media

Organic visibility on high-intent category terms takes pressure off Shopping and search ad budgets.

### Reporting In Sales

Results are reported as organic revenue and orders by collection, alongside the rankings that explain them.

The goal is more revenue from organic search on a platform you do not fully control, with every fix tied to the collections and products that sell.

## How Our Shopify SEO Work Runs, Step By Step

### 1. Audit The Store

We crawl the store, review the theme, apps and Markets setup, and match every issue to the revenue it affects.

### 2. Prioritise By Revenue

You get a ranked plan of theme fixes, collection changes, content and authority work, ordered by commercial impact.

### 3. Fix And Build

Theme changes are made on a duplicate theme, collection content is written and Digital PR starts for priority categories.

### Can you change Shopify's /products/ and /collections/ URLs?

No. Shopify fixes the /products/, /collections/, /pages/ and /blogs/ prefixes on every store, and they cannot be changed with apps or custom code. You can edit the handle after the prefix, so /products/blue-linen-dress rather than /products/dress-2. The prefixes do not stop a store ranking. What matters more is which collections you create, how products link to them and which duplicate URLs Google can crawl. If you change a handle, add a redirect from the old URL.

### Why does my Shopify product appear at two different URLs?

Many themes link products from collection pages using a collection-scoped URL such as /collections/dresses/products/blue-linen-dress, while the same product also lives at /products/blue-linen-dress. Shopify's canonical tag points to the /products/ version, so Google usually indexes that one, but internal links to the collection version still split signals and waste crawling. The fix is a theme edit so collection grids link straight to the canonical product URL.

### What does a Shopify SEO agency do that an SEO app cannot?

Apps handle repeatable tasks well, such as meta tag templates, image alt text and redirect lists. They cannot decide which collections your store needs, edit the theme code that creates duplicate URLs, judge which filter pages deserve indexing or earn links from publications. Each app also adds code to your storefront, and Shopify lists apps among the biggest factors in store speed. A Shopify SEO agency or consultant makes those judgement calls and ties them to revenue.

### Is Shopify Plus better for SEO than standard Shopify?

The core SEO features are the same on both: the same URL structure, robots.txt.liquid, Markets and structured data. Plus adds capacity rather than different SEO rules. It allows up to 20 million URL redirects against 100,000 on other plans, and up to nine expansion stores for separate markets or brands. Those matter for large catalogues and complex international setups. For most stores, theme quality, collection strategy and authority matter far more than the plan.

### How do you handle Shopify filters and faceted navigation?

Shopify's storefront filters add parameters such as filter.v.option.color to collection URLs, and every combination is a new crawlable URL. We decide which combinations match genuine search demand and turn those into dedicated collections with their own copy. The rest we keep out of Google's crawl with robots.txt.liquid rules, in line with Google's faceted navigation guidance, which says canonical tags are generally less effective in the long term than blocking URLs you do not need.

### How do you measure Shopify SEO success?

We report organic revenue and orders first, broken down by collection, then the rankings, crawl and Core Web Vitals data that explain them. Shopify's web performance reports mark app installs and theme updates on the timeline, so speed work can be tied to specific changes. If you also run [Google Shopping](https://marketingsignals.com/service/pay-per-click/google-shopping), we share search term data across both. Every [Organic Search](https://marketingsignals.com/service/organic-search) engagement is reported on revenue and leads, not rankings alone.
